How long before I receive my rebates?
The rebate process should take 60 to 90 days.
What will the Home Performance Analyst do on our first visit?
It will be necessary for our analyst to gather information about your home’s past performance, so have at least 12 months of utility bills available, if possible. Our analyst will survey your home, looking at the roofing, heating and air system with ductwork, insulation, windows and any other items in your home that may affect your energy usage. He will then present you with a prioritized list of options for efficiency improvements and an estimate for those improvements.
Will you do a full energy analysis of my home?
Yes, after the preliminary visit, a recommendation will be made for upgrades to your home. The next step will be to schedule an analysis, which may include a blower door test and combustion testing. Here is an example of what to expect from a Bonney Home Performance Energy Assessment Report and Recommendations. Click here to view Sample Report #1
A Blower Door Test is done to determine how “loose” or “tight” your home is. A frame with a large fan is installed at a doorway in your home and then, with all windows and doors closed, we blow 50 pascals of air into the home. Once the data is collected, we can establish a baseline for safety and efficiency improvements.
Why is air sealing such a necessary part of Home Performance?
Air sealing greatly impacts the “R” value of your home. Most insulation gains (90%) are made up to about R10. Then, only small gains are received by adding more insulation. With air sealing your home we can dramatically improve the insulation performance, which can then help lower your heating and cooling bills, as well as increase your home’s comfort.
How long will a Blower Door Test Take?
Approximately 1 to 2 hours depending on how large your home is.
Are the rebates from SMUD and PG&E guaranteed?
The rebates are to be determined by the information we provide to the utility company after our analysis of your home. While, we can’t guarantee the rebates we will do everything in our power to make sure you receive the money you are entitled to.
How much can we lower our bills?
This is directly impacted by the percentage of increase we can make to your home’s performance. The more you invest in Home Performance the greater the efficiency, and thus the greater ability to lower your utility bills.
This depends entirely upon the level of efficiency you desire for your home. Some things you can do yourself will require little investment. Upgrading an entire home can cost from $3,000 to as much as $40,000 or more depending on your commitment to energy savings.
